Sculptor and designer Hubert Kovařík started studying at the Imperial Royal Arts and Crafts School in Vienna from 1908, graduating in 1912. The lessons that Vienna’s artistic landscape taught him about style, and especially the decorative works produced by artists linked to the Wiener Werkstätte, significantly influenced the forms and decors he designed for practical everyday objects produced in collaboration with Kunštát Keramika, which Kovařik had co-founded in 1919.
